As It Should Have Been – (Chapter: 1.2 – What Just Happened – Ashley's POV)

    Chapter 1.2 – What Just Happened – Ashley’s POV

I feel her tense up and I realize what is happening. I pull away from her. Something that I really do not want to do, but I have to let her know. I give her what I hope is a comforting smile, and my heart flutters as she smiles back.

“You’re safe with me Spence,” I whisper, “I would never hurt you.”

She looks away and begins playing with the blankets. I take her hands in mine and continue.

“We don’t have to do anything tonight,” I whisper, “We have time. I -”

Her lips pressing against mine stop all words and coincidentally all thought. I’m stunned for a second…I really wasn’t expecting that. Just as I start to kiss her back she pulls away, and this time her eyes hold mine.

“I want to Ash,” she whispers, “just promise me that I’m not like the other girls that you’ve been with. Just tell me that I mean more to you and I’ll believe you.”

There is a strong look of determination in her eyes. She has made up her mind. She wants to be with me, but she needs reassurance…something that I’ve never been good at.

“I’ve never cared about someone as much as I care about you Spence,” I intone, “I’ve never opened up to anyone as fast as I did with you either. The second I saw you I just -”

I stop trying to gather my thoughts. I am so bad at this, but she needs to hear it.

    “What,” she whispers, “Ash?”

‘She sounds so scared. I don’t think that I can do this.’

    “Tell me Ashley, please.”

“Well, normally when I see a girl that I really I want I think something stupid like…okay, I’d hit that or something like that, but when I saw you I just thought…I want to get to know that girl. It’s never been like that with me before. That’s why I had to find you after school to apologize, and that’s why I wanted to show you around L.A. I knew that there was something special about you…even then, and everything that’s happened since then has only made me more sure of that fact.”
