Artistic Awakening – (Chapter: Chapter 7)

I still couldn’t believe my luck, here I with this amazing girl. I just sat there in silence as we drove down the road, wind blowing lightly on my face. I held one of my hands out the window, letting the cool air play across my fingertips. A soft chuckle brought me out of my daze. I turned my head to see Ashley smiling widely, “What?“, I exclaimed. “Just wondering what was going on in that pretty little head of yours?“, she asked. “Nothing, just happy I guess..“, I replied honestly. She smiled at me with one of those nose-crinkling grins of hers. Man, do I love it when she does that! She returned her eyes to the road. Wow, I couldn’t help but, stare at her. She had a pair of aviators perched over her eyes and was singing along with Paramore’s Hallelujah on radio, this girl was too cute. I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face, without thinking I reached over and took her hand that was resting on the gearshift in my own. She stopped in mid-song and looked over at me surprised, smiling she threaded our fingers. I looked down at our hands, fitting together like a puzzle, perfect. I sighed contently as I closed my eyes, feeling the light breeze on my face. I never felt so content in my life.

We stopped at a small café just outside of campus for lunch. It was unbelievable how doing the most simple of things felt amazing when I’m with her. But, it did. I felt so comfortable in her presence, it was like we had known each other our entire lives. Her hand in mine, running her thumb over the top of it softly. “Do you miss Ohio?”, she asked taking a sip of her water. “Not really, I never really felt at home there.”, her brow furrowed in confusion so I continued. “I didn’t really fit in, for one coming from a small town that was made up of mostly close-minded Catholics, a lesbian odd artsy chick didn’t really go over so well.” She suddenly leaned her body forward, squeezing my hand a little tighter. “No, it’s okay, really.”, I tried to reassure her but, she still looked at me with concern in her eyes. “If anyone hurt you, I’d…”, she began. I tried to smile but failed, “That was a long time ago and nothing can be done about it now. I haven’t seen my mother in many years.” Her eyes widened, “Your mother?” “When I came out my mother disowned me..she told me I sickened her and I was no longer her daughter. I haven’t seen her since.”, I explained with a slightly hurt tone. Ashley leaned forward pressing a sweet kiss to my lips, touching my cheek. “Your mother is an idiot.”, she said leaning her forehead on mine. I smiled a bit, leaning away. “Your father…is he..”, she asked. “Is amazing..from the beginning he has always supported me..he is the only thing I miss about Ohio.”, my eyes lighting up as I spoke. My dad was my rock. Ashley smiled, “He sounds really nice.”
