Artistic Awakening – (Chapter: Chapter 17)

We sat there in silence, though it was not awkward. My head lay against her, Ashley’s strong arm draped over my shoulder, rubbing it with her thumb. I glanced around the room there were so many people here, though I was not surprised. Everyone that met Sean liked him, it was just the person he was, it was impossible not to love him. I felt Ashley shift lightly, I looked up at her. “Spence, Ima go in the kitchen for a minute.”, she went to get up but, I didn’t let go of her arm. She leaned down, “You need to eat something baby, I promise I’ll be right back.”, with that she leaned forward pressing a kiss to my forehead, making me close my eyes and relax a bit. Everything she seemed to do was comforting. I let her arm go and watched as she disappeared through the people into my crowd kitchen. I sat up closing my eyes as I leaned back against the sofa, taking a deep breath. “I know this is hard.”, I opened my eyes to see the warm eyes of my father. He took a seat beside me. “You know Ashley is a very kind young lady.”, he said softly. I looked over at me and nodded with a faint smile. “Pretty too.”, he added and nudged me a bit when I ducked my head a bit, blushing. “I know you’ve been through a lot baby girl and I understand your reluctance. I can tell Ashley is a special girl.”, he said in a serious yet very soft kind tone. “I know, she really is amazing, daddy.”, I replied. He glanced over to see Ashley trying to make her way back through the crowd. He patted my knee and leaned over close, “Love like that doesn’t come along very day. Don’t let it slip away, baby girl.” I looked over at him in surprise, he knew, hell he always knew me. Before Ashley came along he could read me better than anyone. He kissed my cheek and stood up, he patted Ashley on the shoulder as he went back into the other room. “Hey sweetie.”, she said sitting down with two plates and two bottles of water. I honestly do not know how she managed to carry it all back on her own. She sat one of the plate on my lap, then handed me a plastic fork and a water. I looked over and noticed our plates were identical. A turkey sandwich and some mac-n-cheese. “Its okay I put mustard on your sandwich, not mayo.“ Its crazy that she knows me so well. I told her once my hatred for mayonnaise, just mentioned in passing. It didn’t mattered, she seems to remember everything I tell her. I looked down at my plate, I wasn’t hungry. “I know you don’t feel like eating but, we cant let you getting weak on us, babe.”, I looked at her my eyes asking her. “Please, just a bit okay. Will you do it me, huh?”, she added. Crap..she had to go and pull out that. How could I say no to that beautiful face, looking into her eyes made me weak. I lifting my fork and took a bite of my mac-n-cheese. “Thank you baby.”, she whispered, placing a kiss to the skin just beside my ear. I sighed a bit, though I was not holding her arm anymore I made sure my leg rested right against hers. Somehow touching her in some way was a comfort, her touch was almost healing in a way.
