Artistic Awakening – (Chapter: Chapter 15)

“Baby…there are just bad people in this world…such evilness. I know it’s not fair..I’m so sorry Spence.”, Ashley replied sweetly as she rubbed my arm with her thumb. I wrapped my arms around her neck, pulling my face to rest in the nook of her neck, pressing a kiss to it. I sighed contently, how is it possible she knows exactly like what to say to comfort me. She held me soo very close, there was no space between us, her scent washing over me and calming me. I heard her chuckle lightly as my stomach growled, “Let’s get some food in you sweetie.” I looked up at her then at the discarded takeout bag on the floor close to the door. “I’m sorry Ash, the food probably cold.”, I said looked up at her again. Ashley smiled, leaning forward pressing a soft kiss on my lips, “I have a microwave babe.” I laughed at my blondeness, she soon joined in. “Come on I’ll fix you something.”, she said getting up, taking me by the hand to pull me to my feet. She smiled again, when I didn’t let go of her hand as she walked over to pick up the food from the floor. I know this was dangerous, I didn’t want to complicate things but, I just needed her close. I was being selfish and part of me hated for doing this to her. Ashley sat me down on a stool and went to walk away, though I stopped her by not releasing her hand. She brought my hand up to her lips kissing it, I released her hand slowly letting it slide from my fingers. I watched her as she fixed both herself and I a plate of food. My way she walked to the microwave was almost graceful, beautiful. I looked up when I buzzer went off, she took the food out and placed both plates on the table. I went over and took at seat as she went to the refrigerator grabbing two bottles of water. Smiling she took a seat beside me, her fingers grazing my hand as she handed me a water. We sat in silence, slowly eating our food.

“The funeral is at noon on Tuesday..I’m going to try and get a flight out tomorrow.”, I said not looking up from my food, as I moved rice around on my plate. Ashley reached over taking my hand in her own, “Are you going to be okay, I could come with you if you need me to.” I shook my head, “You have a test in music theory Tuesday, you cant miss that Ash. I’ll be okay.”. She looked at me as if she didn’t quite believe my words, “Spence…” “Ash, baby I’ll be okay..I promise.”, I insisted rubbing her hand with my thumb. She nodded, though I could tell by the look in her eyes that she didn’t believe me, that she wanted to argue. Yet, I knew that she knew that arguing wasn’t what I needed right now. Honestly, I really would’ve liked Ashley to be able to go with me, it was going to be hard being there…the funeral. All I wanted was to have Ashley there to hold me but, I wouldn’t let her almost perfect grades suffer because of me. She was very smart, that girl and so very sweet.
