    Against Their Own Power

“We need to fight these Volturi someway or another,” Emmett muttered. Alice glared at him.

“Shut it!” she snapped, lurching toward him. He looked stunned.

“Since when are you scary?” he asked, provoking her further. A grisly snarl ripped out of her. I sent a sense of fear to Emmett. He walked away stiffly, as if he really were afraid.

    Alice smiled up at me.

“Thanks for helping me,” she whispered.

    I kissed her forehead.

“Geez, what’d you do to Em?” asked Edward.

    “Alice freaked him out.”

    She grinned. Edward snorted.

“Jazz gave him an extra bit of fear,” she told him.

“He needs to learn how terrifying my wife is,” I chuckled.

    Alice beamed.

    Alice's POV

“What am I going to do with you, Jazz?” I asked as soon as he carried me through the door of our small house.

“Hmmm, I don’t know.” He grinned.

I scooted closer to him, and kissed his cold lips.

“Are you afraid?” he asked quietly after he pulled away.

“No, I’m really not. But I am terrified for you.”

“You shouldn’t be. I’ll be fine.”

He pressed his lips to mine.

    ****~****

Morning. Such a beautiful time of day.

    “Jasper…” I moaned.

    “Yes?” he answered.

“I don’t know how we’re to get out of this damn mess.”

“Do you know long it is until they’re going to try to… kill you?” he asked.

    “Yes… tomorrow,” I replied.

“Alice! Why didn’t you tell me sooner!?”

“I’m sorry, Jazz,” I told him.

He caressed my face, so I closed my eyes. His lips met mine. I, then, traced his scars with my fingers.
