After Love – (Chapter: Chapter 3 – Nightlife)

    “Hey, Mads?”

    “Yeah?”

    “What’s your favorite Chinese cuisine?”

“Sesame Chicken.  Oh, wait no.  General Tso’s.  Or something spicy.  Spicy Chicken!”

I laughed and returned to my phone call.

“Lucky’s going to like you, Madison.”

    Ashley’s POV

Spinaker’s.  It’s a nice bar.  Full of youngsters, but the music is nice.  I found my way to the bar and greeted the bar tender like he was an old friend.

“Hey, Bo.  Give me something strong.”  I eased myself onto a barstool and waited.  It usually didn’t take long for someone to notice me.  I would hang out with Bo until I found that person that would be taking me home tonight.

“You look troubled.  More than usual.  You okay, child?”  I loved it when he called me child.  He was about thirty-five.   Definitely not old enough to call me child.

“Kyla, my sister, she moved to Chicago today.  I said Goodbye to her this afternoon.”

“That sucks.  Rest of your family still around?”

“Ha.  Kyla is my family.  It’s cool.  We still have holidays.”  I took the drink that he sat on the table.  Apparently, he thought that I needed Johnny Walker tonight.

“Ashley Davies!  Well, well.  Look at you.”

I thought I knew the voice, but I wasn’t sure that it was possible.  The owner of that voice had moved back to Ohio years ago.  However, when I turned to look, there he was.  Blonde hair and blue eyes.  Her eyes.

“Glen.  Well, hi,” I tried to be polite.  I remembered not liking him, but I couldn’t really remember why.  Sure, he was an ass.  But so was I.  Probably more so than him.  The feeling was gone though.  That feeling of hatred that I always had when I was around him.  It was completely gone.  I guess nine or so years will do that.

“Hello, Ashley.  What are you up to these days?” he asked as he slid onto the stool beside me.  He ordered a Rum and coke as I searched my brain for a proper response.

“This,” was all I could think to say.  I wasn’t really up to much.  What did I care if Glen knew that?  He gave me a curious look before returning to his drink.  We sat in silence for a little while soaking in the atmosphere and the alcohol.

    1. The first three chapters of this story are fantastic. I’m addicted already. It’s sad that Spencer and Ashley didn’t work things out after prom. Seems like they just feel apart. But their lives are about to intersect…in a big way.
