    Chapter 14

Alice, Shane and Helena stood on the sand outside of the Pink Coquina Beachside Bar as the flighty blonde hit speed dial on her cell.  Bette picked up on the second ring.

“Did you find her?” Her voice was growing more frantic with each call.

“Not yet.  We’re about to walk into this bar we found in the middle of nowhere to take a whiz.  Where are you?”

“Does the bar have a pink neon sign?”

“Yep.”  Alice turned around and saw two figures approaching in the near distance – a tall one and a slightly smaller one.  She waved her arm in their direction.  “Is that you?  I’m waving.”

“We see you, Al.  Be right there.”

Alice ended the call while the three of them waited for Bette and the actress to join them.  They seemed to be jogging as they neared quickly slowing to a brisk walk at about twenty feet away.

“Hey,“ the brunette breathed as the three women met them halfway.

“Hey Bette,” they smiled in unison sizing up her famous companion.

“Caitlyn, these are our best friends, Shane McCutcheon, Helena Peabody and Alice Pieszecki."  They shook hands all around, nodding and smiling a little blatantly at the movie star.  Bette cleared her throat and continued, frowning,

“This is T’s good friend and colleague, Caitlyn Collinswood.”

Alice rolled her eyes dramatically.  “As if…”

    Bette frowned.  “What’s that Alice?”

“As if we don’t recognize her, Bette.”

Caitlyn grinned casting a sideways glance at the brunette.  Tina had mentioned that Bette wasn’t much of a film enthusiast and wondered if she’d even seen any of her movies.

    “Oh, yeah.”

“C’mon you guys.  I’m about to pee in my pants!  We’ve walked like ten miles down this beach after downing I don’t know how many beers at that party.” Never one to stand on ceremony, Alice broke the ice with her usual aplomb.

The five attractive women eased their way slowly up the stairs to the bar’s entrance through a crowd of interested regulars who made no bones about staring at the newcomers.  Luckily it was pretty dim and they had surrounded the actress to keep her out of the glare of the onlookers.  The last thing they needed was to attract a lot of unwanted attention in a straight bar.  Bette gave Alice a familiar warning eyebrow that said ‘keep your mouth shut,’ which the blonde surprisingly heeded, her preoccupation with finding the restroom as they entered the crowded establishment uppermost in her thoughts.

    1. I can’t wait. Seriously. It’s gonna be good the next one right LOL. Please let Bette make up for it. Big time. LOL. I have a feeling neither one of them is gonna be able to walk in the morning. PPS. I’m begging you.

    2. So happy Bette took the high road in the bar and didn’t cause a scene. Relief was chief among the emotions she felt and I’m glad that over rode everything else. Tina is cute when she’s had a few too many and really in need of her wife. Loved the chapter. Thanks for posting.

    3. How great to have another chapter, Nell – thank you! And such a sweet one. Last time a number of comments said how you could visualise this scene as if it was a movie, which you can, but this chapter demonstrates the superiority of the written word. The repetition of the dedication and the description of their friends fearful anticipation of Bette’s reaction is much funnier. I also loved Bette’s accurate reading of Tina’s reaction to the song. And, as everyone has said, drunk Tina is cute! I trust Bette is taking her somewhere unsandy and you will “TBC” soon!!

    4. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Your words make it seems as if you are there watching the moments unfold and you can almost feel them. B E A U T I F U L. I think I’m in love with your writing, no, I know I am in love with your writing. I wish updates were more often but each one is worth the wait.

    5. Melania couldn’t have chosen better songs to cheer up the charming Ms T. (As an aside: I admire Natalie Merchant’s work with 10,000 Maniacs and the distinct, profound songs they’ve created.) I’m glad Bette proved my guess wrong that she’s go ballistic again if she sees the singer flirting with her wife. It’s refreshing to see a character do the exact opposite of what she/he is wont to do or is expected to do most of the time. I love the “avalanche of visceral responses” the sight of Tina provoked in Bette and the myriad of emotions that Tina saw in Bette’s eyes. When Bette was staring at Tina and feeling the stirrings of falling in love all over again, the moment their eyes met and they finally embraced were simply beautiful. I bet the make-up scene will be lava hot, nothing less than scorching. Thanks a bunch for this superb post, Nell. I hope your Muse will never cease to inspire you to write and share your writing with us. Cheers and hugs. =)

    6. Wow, it’s been 2 months since your last post, Nell. Are you okay? Hope you’re just busy and preoccupied. I just stopped by to tell you I miss your posts and that I love this story to pieces. Have a lovely day and a lovely week, Nell! Cheers! =)

    7. Hey Everybody!I’m here and I WILL be back! I appreciate your comments and PM’s so much… I’ve just been very, very busy with life and work. 8. Omg… So cheesy…!! :-D “The woman you love loves you in spite of your stupidity…” glad to read your story again!! :-) and cute drunk Tina!! :-D hahah… Can picture LH on that scene easily ;-)

    9. Each one of your words brings a picture in my head….it’s like the movies! You write very well and your story is very unusual! Thanks. PPS if your schedule allows it! :0)

    10. Thanks for the update. I love this story. The way you described what they were thinking as they saw each other in the bar was beautiful. Their personalities complement each other perfectly. And drunk Tina is just adorable. :)
