‘Kate! can you come to my office ASAP?’

"What’s got you so upset,you got up on the wrong side of the bed?again?".Her pause between the two questions was not accidental.It was Kate’s subtle way of saying that Tina’s sour mood was becoming annoying.

Tina pretended not to catch the gibe as she shuffled the papers on her desk.This is your last chance Kate.Management is getting frustrated with your work,the clients are complaining and frankly i’m tired of covering your ass.Friend or not,you better shape up because your ship is sinking and i’m not going down with you.I’ve been covering your ass since day one and this has to stop i’m tired of cleaning up your messes.

"What is this really about ",Kate ask as she calmly drops into a chair. "you’re not yourself,Tina,Kate begins

you’re uptight ,edgy,out-of-sorts.If i didn’t know better i’d think you were pregnant"

Tina rolled her eyes "very funny".

"What’s happened to your sense of humor? what’s wrong with you?"

"Nothing"

"Don’t give me that"

‘What!"Tina said,"I din not call you in here to talk about me"

"You’re not yourself lately,you need to go out more,meet new people,go dancing,get laid maybe…

‘Ever since Eric left you are acting as if it is the end of the world.You need to go out and have some fun."

That’s not what i want

‘Then what do you want?’

"I don’t know ,i want…"

Tina searched her mind for an explanation for her moods.the element missing from her life was not so easy to pinpoint, if it was she would have filled the void a long time ago. "I want something to happen" she finally said.Something that will  shake things up ,turn my life around."

"Be careful what you wish for,you might just get it" Kate said softly as she exited the office.

"I need  some fresh air,"Tina sighs.

"Do i have any calls," Bette asks James as she enters her office .

"Only Jodie.’

"What the hell does she want now…,James hold all my calls, anyone call  i’m not in.can you also get me two aspirins please James,i have a splitting headache."

After Bette takes the aspirins she’s resting her head at her desk when the door burst open.

"I’m sorry Bette,but she wouldn’t take no for an answer"

It’s ok James,It’s not your fault,i’ll take it from here"

As James exit the office Bette turns to Jodie,"What the fuck do you want Jodie?"

Why haven’t you returned any of my calls?"

"What part of leave me alone don’t you understand?"

"We have unfinished business."

"No we don’t"

"Why are you avoiding me?’

"I’ve been busy"

"Too busy to return my calls?"

‘As i’ve said,"Bette answered a little testily,"i’ve been busy."

U-ndaunted Jodie ask,"how about dinner?"

I can’t i have a ton of work" gestering to her desk.

"What gives with you?"

"What do you mean?"

"Why are you stringing me along?’

"I’m doing no such thing"

"Then what do you call this?everything was going fine and then you start avoiding me"

"We’ve gone out on a couple of dates,it wasn’t going anywhere, i’m doing us a favor"

"Why are you so uptight?’Jodie asks,"is it the sex?"

"This has nothing to do with sex Jodie,"Bette was getting a little angry," I have a shit load of work piled on my desk that needs to be done by the end of the day so if you don’t mind?"Bette opens the door and Jodie walks towards it ,as she reaches the door she turns to face Bette angrily.

"you know ,you are so uptight,it’s like a burr is up your ass,as soon as someone gets close to you ,you pushes them away."If the package is not for sale stop advertising it"and with that she storms out.

Bette goes back to her desk and rest her forehead on the back of her hands,…maybe Jodie is right,maybe she is too uptight.she sighs and gets up from her desk."i need some fresh air.
