Shane brought in a big shopping bag of take out burgers from a local joint. She set the bag down on the table and began to pull out Styrofoam boxes with delicious smelling burgers.
Tina said “Bette, big juicy cheeseburgers, your favorite!”
Bette said “Yum. Thanks Shane!”
Tina said “ The hospital food is the the pits, so this will be a good treat for Bette; she needs to get her strength back”.
Shane said “I don’t think she is having a problem with her strength as far as I could tell a few minutes ago…”
Tina immediately turned bright red and looked down blushing. Bette busted out laughing and Shane joined in.
Tina said “Shane fine. Out with it. Make whatever jokes you are going to make at my expense now and get it over with!”.
Shane was still laughing and said “T, seriously. It is cool. I think it rocks that you guys are so in love that you would play nurse and patient. Just kidding. No seriously, it is totally cool that you are able to get it on with a bed-ridden critical care hospital patient!”
Bette was laughing the whole time. Shane was laughing too until she noticed that Tina was crying.
Shane said “Oh my god, T, I was totally kidding… Tina?”
Tina didn’t say anything, she just looked up with this pathetic crying face, her eyes were welled up with tears that were spilling over.
Bette said “Baby? T?”
Shane got up from her chair and walked over to Tina’s and put her arm around Tina’s shoulders and bent down to her level. Shane said “Tina, I was totally kidding. I am so sorry. I thought you thought it was funny. Tina really. This is not anything to be upset about. You love Bette and you miss her. You guys are like the hottest couple ever and you are back together. It is like a second honeymoon… of course you guys can’t keep your hands off of each other. Tina, really… you know I was just kidding you. You and Bette are like the parents that I never had and stand for the ideal couple to me that love wins in the end and that people can stay together and make each other happy. I love that you guys are so affectionate and loving toward one another. Heck, this is after being together for a long while, having a kid, breaking up and getting back together…”
