Coming up for air – part forty two
It was Sunday morning just after Christmas. Tina was sitting on the balcony in the pale morning light. With a cup of coffee in her hand she let her thoughts wander, thinking back over the past year. Henry seemed a distant memory only linked to Tina by Mikey. Just before Christmas Mikey’s mom had let her know she was moving to San Diego. The relocation would be the end of Tina’s Tuesdays with Mikey. The news left Tina feeling sad, knowing that Mikey had become someone she treasured spending time with. But at the same time her life was more stable now, she wasn’t as lost and lonely as she was back when Henry threatened to take away Mikey. The news hadn’t devastated her like it did last time. Bette had been there when Tina got the news, ready to hold her, her eyes searching Tina’s for her feelings. They hadn’t talked much about it. Tina didn’t feel the need. All she needed was to feel the safety of Bette’s arms holding her tight, her soft voice whispering words of comfort.
The apartment was quiet. It was barely 7 o’clock in the morning and Bette was still sleeping. All of Tina’s belongings were packed in boxes, waiting to be moved to the house. Later that same day they would move everything back into the house, which would once again be their home. Tina still couldn’t quite believe it was happening. She felt uneasy sitting there alone on the balcony unable to sleep. Part of her wanted to pull back and seek refuge somewhere far away, far away from the pressure of succeeding. Far away from all the mistakes she was scared to death of repeating. Far away from all the new pitfalls she feared dragging both Bette and herself into. Tina felt a surge of trepidation at the thought of what them falling apart once again would do to her and to Bette.
“Are you losing faith….?” Bette asked in a hushed voice.
Tina jumped at the sound of the voice so close by. She turned in her seat and looked at Bette.
“Hi…. good morning….” Tina said, forcing a smile.
“T?” Bette persisted. She pulled out a blanket and handed it to Tina. “It’s cold, baby.”
“I’m not losing faith, Bette…” Tina said and returned to her previous position, tucking the blanket around her trebling body.
Bette pulled up a chair and sat down gingerly next to Tina.
“Then why are you out here at the break of dawn…. with that frown on your face…?” Bette asked.

Happy Happy Joy Joy! I’ll have to go tracking you down more often if we’re going to be treated to chapters as fantastic as this! B & T have addressed their fears, and neither of them are unrealistically expecting completely smooth sailing. And they’ve gotten the rings now… they know what’s at stake, and what they want, and I don’t think they’ll risk losing each other in such a spectacularly painful way again. Even if this chapter didn’t come to you as quickly as a cheetah on an oily chute, you did it perfectly, anker. Thank you for the post!
Oh BTW….thanks for not blaming me for being late, I had expected that LOL. And of course I rememeber our deal…how could I forget, not a chance :o))

This flowed nicely. Poor Bette having to get down on her knees to beg Alice to leave so that she could give the ring to Tina was a hot. I can understand the overwhelming fear for both Bette and Tina. Is it going to work this time and can they really live without their soulmate if it does not? I believe that the answer is for them to always try and communicate and don’t give up even when times are difficult.
Glad to see you have posted another chapter. I missed your story. The exchanging of the rings was so romantic!

I can’t even imagine what the writers on this site struggle with to keep a story flowing smoothly. I’m grateful that you toughed it out and were ablte to give us this update. It’s great to have B & T sharing their fears with each other and talking through them. As much as they want to push forward to a new beginning, that nagging thought is always in the back of their mind not to mess up this new chance at happiness. Hey anker, Girl you are so bad! I loved this latest chapter. You are true the characters and the interactions between them. There was just so much love between Bette and Tina balanced with their uncertainity of what the best course of action is. You neven know that the decision you have made is the right one until after the event. Hindsight is marvelous but this is a time to take that leap of faith.
