The Absence of One chapter 3
Bette kept silent the rest of the drive, a part of her processing what Alice just had implied. She knew, in her mind, it still was too soon.
“Just don’t throw it in her face.”
Alice’s words broke through the fog like a hot knife through butter. “I should be insulted you felt the need to say that.”
The blonde frowned. “I know you’re not encouraging these women. Lord knows I’ve been on the front row to witness The Great Rejection from Bette Porter.”
“So what are you really saying, Alice?”
“Just… it’s going to be hard on her.”
“She’s a big girl. She can handle it,” Bette replied. “If she can flaunt Henry like she did, then I shouldn’t have to hide what I have no control over.”
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
Bette took a deep breath to calm herself, hoping it would have the same effect on Alice. “All I’m saying is that it’s not something that should come as a surprise to her.”
“Knowing and seeing are two different things,” Alice offered.
The taller woman nodded, and without a word had exited her car. Together, they walked into the Planet, scanning the crowd for their group immediately. Bette pulled Alice toward the bar, getting the festivities started with a round of drinks.
As the two friends turned around to survey the crowd with their drinks in hand, Tina walked in with Shane in tow. Waving them over, Alice whispered to Bette, “Vulture at 3 o’clock.”
Bette’s gaze slivered to the intended direction. “Ah, shit.”
“No shit. Do you teach at a pound or something?” Alice gave the woman a once over. “‘Cause it sure looked like a puppy followed you home.”
“Fuck,” Bette muttered as Tina and Shane reached them. “Hey, we’re waiting for you guys before we get a table.”
“Where’s Helena?” Tina took stock of the group. “She was…”
“Right behind you,” Helena finished the sentence as she walked up to them.
“Let’s go,” Alice announced, raising her voice as she noticed Bette admirer No. 1 approached them. “And don’t forget, Porter, your ass is mine tonight.”
Bette laughed as she linked arms with her friend and headed toward a free table. She didn’t need to know Tina’s eyes were on her. It was strange, knowing the passion still lies between them yet neither wanting to take action.

they will never get over eachother!! but its fun to watch them try!!
I’m with curious. Even on the show. Tina may be with Henry and Bette may be fooling around with Jodi, but they know and we know that the only people they belong with is each other. I mean,is it just me, or have the rest of you noticed, that no matter who their with theirs no chemistry unless there with each other.
At least get Tina more on screen, in lots of scenes with Bette
I agree they both know how to push each other’s buttons. They are denying what they feel for each other because they are both too stubborn to admit they’ve both made mistakes, but still deeply love each other. It’s still interesting to read in fanfic and watch on the show. PPS
I think that love as intense as theirs is, is hard to willingly jump back into when you know how much it can hurt. But, as Jodi said, anything you might die doing is more worth the risk… And, with B&T, it will ALWAYS be worth the risk…
From one Sky to another…this was awesome…I just caught up with this story…and I am with Curious…they will NEVER get over each ohter…more please.
Sad for them!
there’s only chemistry when Tina is with Bette; that’s why they keep fighting…fighting off the undeniable sexual attraction…that party at Henry’s house said it all…the way they were so uncomfortable, squirming in each other’s presence while trying to be on their best behavior in a crowd…it’s the 1 on 1 intimate exchanges when they fight their urge to ravish the other!!!! post asap pleasz
I am so eith skycapt on this. Your story is going Great!!! Thanks PPS
