Coming up for air – part nineteen
The days flew by for Bette. Even though it was fall and the weather was awful in London, she loved walking the streets, getting wet and cold. It was a nice change from the eternal sunshine of LA. Bette had met twice with the project director of Tate Modern, Vivienne Bennett. They hit it off and Bette felt relatively secure, knowing that she made an impression on the right people. When she came back to the hotel late Wednesday night she called her travel agent to change her flight home. She booked a ticket, leaving London Thursday night. That way she’d be home to kiss Tina goodnight on Thursday instead of Friday. She was going to keep the change of plans a secret. Bette wanted to surprise Tina and couldn’t wait to see her face when she came home early.
Tina had called Bette that morning to tell her about her day with Mikey. Tina was rambling on and on about how wonderful this kid was. Bette couldn’t help getting caught up in Tina’s excitement. It was such bliss to hear the happiness in Tina’s voice.
Bette would spend Thursday shopping. She wanted to get a couple of new suits for herself and something special for Tina. Bette called Tina even though she knew she was probably still at work.
“Tina Kennard,” she answered the phone.
“Hi ms. Kennard… could you be the woman of my dreams?” Bette giggled.
“Bette…” Tina laughed, “why yes… I do believe I am the woman you’re looking for.”
“I thought you might be… how are you this lovely evening?”
“It’s afternoon here… but I’m fine… a little tired due to a late night call to my absent girlfriend… but otherwise I’m fine.”
“Just for the record… your absent girlfriend appreciated the call very much… I love that your voice was the first thing I heard this morning…” Bette purred.
“Arghhh…! Don’t get me all worked up, babe… I’m at work… in a very public place…” Tina whispered into the phone.
“Oh, please… we’ve had lots of fun at work… you and me and a swivel chair…. baby, since when did you go all shy on me…”
“Bette!” Tina laughed, “Well, now that you’re asking… I’m not shy… I’m just out of practice… I haven’t gotten many dirty phone calls at work lately…” Tina said, trying to keep a straight face.
“Mmmm, that’s all gonna change…. do you think they’ll mind if we fool around at The Center for Social Services? I know you’d be doing me a very… social… service…” Bette groaned.
“I do think they’d mind… but I appreciate the offer… maybe I could service you somewhere else?” Tina chuckled.
“Oh, baby… any time, any where…”
“Really? Hmmmm, I haven’t visited you at The CAC for a while… maybe we could put on a show there?” Tina said in a mischievous manner.
“Well, you are a work of art… so I don’t see a problem with that…” Bette answered.
Tina laughed out loud. “You’re so bad….”
“You like?”
“No, I love…” Tina smiled. “Bette, I’ve gotta go… I have a meeting in two minutes.”
“Ok, I’m gonna let you go then…”
“See you soon, Bette… and thanks for the call.”
“My pleasure, baby… bye.”
“Bye,” Tina said still smiling.

Anker I love this story so much…I am glad Bette wants to make it special…but I would not have been mad if they went at it right then and there…it HAS been a long time. I am glad Tina is letting that baggage go and hopefully they will be moving on with their lives completely soon. Thank you for posting.

Is it time yet for them to be together? Don’t drink hot chocolate and read about Bette and Tina having wild passionate sex. I almost scalded and then drowned myself. Can’t wait for the special evening to take place. When is Bette going to give Tina her new jewery?

Bravo for Bette not just giving lip service to Tina about changing jobs—well she can service her lips and the rest of her in your next chapter—LOL!! Seriously it is nice to see that Bette is taking action to have a job where she will be able to spend more time with Tina and not always working. Have I told you lately anker that I just love this story. Patiently awaiting the next chapter, but PPS anyway.

Tina’s come a long way… she was able to just push the image of any wayward face-sitting from her mind without getting sad about it. And Bette’s restraint is a thing of wonder. But hey, she’s waited this long, I think she can hold out a few more *agonizingly* long days. (So can we!) Nice chapter, anker.

I am not a tea drinker, but while in London “T” time took on a whole new meaning! Keep your fingers crossed that season 4 brings them at least a “little” closer! Love this story!
Love this story. Bette is being so sweet and loveable. When the time comes Tina will be so loved and will know it. When will Bette give her the necklace? Loved that they left Bettes bag on the lift. thanks so much for posting
