    The Alterna-L-Word

    Chapter Six

Still reeling from his encounter with Jenny, Kenny wandered aimlessly around the city, looking for places he knew were places his aunt’s friends lived.  It was about eight o’clock when he came to Helena’s house, where he saw a brunette with long wavy hair, talking very animatedly with someone inside the gate.

“What do you mean you can’t let me in?”

“Listen lady, I’m giving you three seconds then I’m calling the police,”

    “This is MY house,”

    “Three…”

    “I live here,”

    “Two…”

“Jesus bloody Christ. What is the matter with people today?” said the woman, storming off in Kenny’s direction, running right into him actually.

    “Will you watch where yo…”

“Please tell me you’re Helena?” he asked, a hopeful grimace crossing his face.

“Oh my God Kenny,” she said, throwing her arms around him, “What the hell is going on? I can’t get into my house or my office, my mother doesn’t know me. I have no idea where my children are. It’s like the entire bloody world has gone loopy.”

    “I think it’s my fault,”

    “Your fault?”

“Yeah. I kind of made this wish last night before I went to sleep. I only wished that things were different instead of the messed up way they were before. With the fighting and custody battles and such.”

“You wished this?” asked Helena incredulous.

“Not exactly. Just that things would be different,”

    “Well un-wish it,”

“I’ve tried. I think that if we just make it through this day it’ll fix itself,”

    “You’re sure?”

“No I’m not sure. I said I think,” he clarified, “Have you seen my aunt?”

“Alice? Yeah. Well…she’s not Alice. She’s…pink-haired,”

    “Have you seen anyone else?”

“My mother practically ran me off of her property. I saw a cop that looked suspiciously like Dana,”

Kenny nodded, grabbing her hand, “Come with me.”

“Where are we going?” she asked as he dragged her down the street.

    “Radar,” he said.
