The Alterna-L-Word
Chapter Four
In the bathroom…
‘Okay. That was Bette. There is no getting around it. That was definitely Bette, and Tina, and Shane and damn it that Karen Crane cop is Dana.’
Kenny splashed some more water on his face.
‘So, there are three possibilities here. Number one: This is all a dream and I have one wickedly awesome, but somewhat sordid subconscious. Number two: I’ve spun off into some alternate dimension where everyone except me is different. Or number three: Jenny’s writing one of her crazy stories again.’
The bathroom door opened and this huge guy walks in. He’s ripped to the max with a dirty tank top on and ripped jeans. Catching his reflection in the mirror Kenny thinks the man looks oddly familiar. He couldn’t dwell on it very long though.
“What are you?” asked the man, looking at the hand dryers on the opposite wall as far as Kenny could tell.
“You…by the sink…what are you?”
“You talking to me?” asked Kenny, looking through the mirror’s refection as the man remains focused on the hand dryers.
“Don’t fuck with me…”
“Look man! I don…” starts Kenny until the man pulls out a 12-gage and points it at him, cocking back the trigger.
“Okay,” said Kenny, looking from the barrel to the man, and now realizing where he knows him from, “I understand what’s going on. You want a little afternoon fuck. Nothing against you buddy but I don’t go that route.”
Suddenly the man reaches forward and plucks a hair from Kenny’s face.
“Fuck Tim, what’d you do that for?”
The man held the hair up to the light, inspecting it for what Kenny didn’t know, but once the inspection was complete he lowered his weapon.
“Sorry about that. You can never be too careful you know,” said the man, a rueful smile crossing his face.
Kenny, still rubbing his cheek, replied, “Sure.”
The man extended his hand, “Matt Addison.”
“”Kenny…Lopez,” said Kenny, shaking his hand, “If you don’t mind too terribly, can I go?”
“Of course,” said Matt, adding with a little grin, “No one’s holding you hostage here.”
