    Forgetting (Optional Final Chapter)

                It was hot.

The cool wind from the south had come later in the night but it wasn’t enough to decrease the temperature ripping through the suburbs from that day. It was subtle relief. Alice however put her jacket back on as the girls sat in a circle outside, next to the calming blue of the pool. Sliding the back door shut as she joined the girls, Dana slumped down into a chair next to Alice.

“That was the last of them leaving. They shouldn’t make too much noise in the neighbourhood.” Dana glanced over at Alice with her fingers in her armpits. “You know, it isn’t that cold.”

“Yeah, well, looking at Shane makes my nipples harden.”

The group of girls exchanged bewildered looks upon one another. Jenny choked on her water. Alice realised what she had said and rolled her eyes.

“Not like that. Shane’s wife beater tops. Yeah? I mean, brrr.” Alice hugged her arms and shook her head slightly.

Shane winked a knowing grin at Alice. “So did you check on Bette and Tina while you were in there?”

Dana turned to Shane. “I sorta didn’t need to. Thank God the rest of their guests are gone. You won’t need to go far into the house to hear them.”

Jenny let out a drunk chuckle as Alice made wooting and howling noises. Dana simply shook her head and began giggling while Shane stared happily into the pool. When the outburst died down, the girls let their conversation slip into silence, partly due to drunkenness.

“Well I guess tonight wasn’t a bad idea after all.” Alice piped up.

Shane looked at her watch, it said 1:15. She began to rise from her chair. “Maybe it’s time to go guys.”

“Yeah, the back way.” Putting her shoes back on, Dana picked up her drink. “I was going to offer to do the dishes, but I don’t think anybody should be made to work in circumstances like that.”

                “That bad huh?”

Dana stood up, sheepishly. “No. That good.” And she laughed with her friends again as they grabbed their stuff and helped each other around the obstacle that was the pool to creep off into the night.

    1. Thanks so much for all your nice words, Im glad you read the previous stories too. This type of writing can really take a lot out of me as well as a lot of time (which explains why I took so long to write this one after the others) but its really awesome to know that people are enjoying it as much as I enjoy writing it. Hopefully it wont be too long until I put up the next one in this series. Thanks again!!!
