Our First Night as Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cullen
Does God make this kind of thing awkward on purpose? I never really understood why humans were cursed with hormones. We are constantly bombarded with these little urges, and they tend to make us act moronic.
I am about to do one of the most blissful and beautiful things I could do, and I am barely muddling through it. I can't depend on Edward to save me from this one, let alone save me from being myself. I know I am universally clumsy, but I would trade all of eternity right now to be that graceful, exuberantly confident girl for him.
This beach, the house, and the water were all put in perfect perspective as soon as I walked into that bedroom. I was on my honeymoon with the center of my universe, Edward. He always knew how to keep a calm exterior. I only wish he was giving me some kind of signal that he was as anxious as I was at this very moment.
Trepidation is not my best friend. It created this doubt in my head.
"Oh, silly Bella." I whispered to myself.
As those words escaped my lips, Edward turned to me in all his luminescent beauty. He was perfection at it's finest, and here he was with me in waist deep water stroking my back, and making me feel sillier for thinking about things that no longer mattered.
We are husband and wife after all. This night was meant to be a logical step in the right direction. After all the coercion and plea-bargaining I figured we both deserved this night. We deserved a night to be just Bella and Edward, and a chance to erase these last few years of danger and pain. I don't want to think about the past, present, or future anymore. I wanted to focus on the most important thing, us…
My mind finally stopped working a mile a minute as I realized that Edward was staring at me intently probably wondering what I was thinking. I finally breathed a sigh of contentment at just being near him. He was the only one who knew how to soothe away all my fears. He never doubted our love, and I never doubted his devotion to me.
We were in our small part of the world preparing for something I knew took all of his courage to attempt.
As he looked down away from the moon and into my eyes, I read all the love he felt for me flowing out of those wonderfully soul-reaching, golden eyes. He was crinkling his brow still oblivious to the musings going on in my head.
"Are you sure about this Bella?" he asked, analyzing my every facial expression.
I answered confidently "There is nothing in this world I am more sure of than you and me."
As I reassured him of my decision, we moved deeper into the tropical water, and into the moonlight.
