    A Red Sunset

    "You're kidding"
    I laughed
"The woman who tried to seduce me last night is a church person?"
I said amused, and concerned. Church and me didn't mix well for many reasons. Not only am I a vampire, but I've killed people even before my change, I was evil. An incubus as well. God just didn't approve of those like me. Jane looked defensive
    "No. Well…aren't you? If there's vampires…doesn't that mean there's a god who…"
    she trailed off.
    "Damned us?"
    I finished for her.
" No. just because part of a story is true, doesn't mean everything is true silly"
    I said.
"But my mother will be so disappointed"
    Jane said pouting. I laughed.
"Will your mother try and get rid of me?"
I said, amused at the thought. Not much could make me leave at this point. Jane frowned.
"No…couldn't you just go anyway? I mean…you can actually walk on holy ground I assume?"
she said. She'd been telling me all about how her mother was coming to town, and how she was planning on meeting me and taking us all to church. I doubt she'd want to show me off when she got here though. Even my face has evil incrypted in it's features. Except for my eyes, which looked so ridiculously human now days.
    "I don't think so"
I said, stubborn. If my father who had muscles of Hercules couldn't get me to a church when I was two, then there was no way that weak Jane could. I thought. She puffed out a breath and collapsed on the bed her hair shimmering with the motion.
"She's not going to be happy"
She said. I lay down beside her, and hugged her gently, even so I could feel her pulse quicken, and her breath get just slightly heavier. Normally this response in humans would cause me to continue, until they're pulse was racing, and breath flying wildly. Human reactions were what I was programmed to inspire. But i kept in control. Because i could, because i was strong. I wasn't sure though. Why was I bothering keeping Jane human. At this point I knew I'd fallen in love with Jane, but that didn't mean she had to stay human. Actually it meant more that she had to not stay human.
    "Jane"
I said. I had always spoken my thoughts. Why should i bother to hide
"Have you ever thought about…making the change, To become a vampire with me, to live forever with me? Wouldn't it be so much more suitable?"
    I said.
"It would allow for certain things.."
I said, showing her by leaning into her, and touching her lips with mine just long enough for the blood to rush up into them, and the wild images in her brain began to test my control. Killing her didn't help anything. Her breath caught.
    "Now?"
she asked, in a whisper. She was picturing her, in white marble skin, and the pictured herslelf killing someone…i think it was her friend from earlier. She shivered in my arms
    "I couldn't kill someone"
    she said
"You wouldn't have to, we can pull this animal blood thing off"
I said, in my best persuasive voice. I could see her mind was reconsidering.
    "Okay"
she said tersely. Her voice didn't break, it was decided. But it was also weak with fear. I hugged her tighter
    "I'll be here….I should…get prepared."
    I said
"What do you have to do?"
she asked, half fearful, picturing knives, pentagrams and other trite human legendary things. I almost laughed, but me loving her made me sober, because there was great pain for her to come. I was so in love with her, that her pain would be my pain, and I would share it with her willingly.
    "The process is excruciating. Unbearable."
    I said seriously.
"For three days, I'll be here sharing the pain with you, but you should know what to brace yourself for. I'm going to steal some morphine or something more powerful if i can, and hope it helps."
    I explained holding her close.
"You can do this, you can be strong."
she nodded, trying to hide her fear even in her head. I kissed her, then left, as slowly as i could, so she wouldn't think I was running away. I went out the window, which was the closest exit and raced down, fast enough I knew the humans wouldn't see me, as I dodged in and out of them. I checked in minds, to make sure no one saw more than i blur that they'd write off as a trick of the light. The nearest hospital was easy to smell out, from the stench of illness, so i hopped in a window, that no minds were coming from, and raced around, eventually found a walk in freezer room, and with it the morphine. I raced back to the house to see Jane standing there in the middle of her living room, with a towels laid out all over the floor.
"The bed would be more comofrtable"
I said, seeing her plan. She was worried about blood
"There won't be much blood at all. You'll just need the one towel. Not the white ones though. Those look amazing on you"
I said winking half heartedly. She smiled
    "Okay.."
she picked up a pink towel and crossed the room to wrap her arms around her neck
"Eric…this is all so fast…but i like it, I trust you completely. I'm not doing this for me as a thoughtless whim. I am commiting myself to you, after much thought, and trust, and love. This is significant."
I smiled. Then the phone rang. She held my eyes smiling in the littlest, most adorable way. I understood. I couldn't leave now could I? Not with that sentence on my head. She'd made it perfectly clear where she was. She meant for us to be together for the long stretcher of eternity and if I broke that, it called me much worse than evil. She crossed the room to the phone
"My last call in this life"
    she said overdramatically
"Oh how i shall miss how saleswomen sound to these human ears"
I laughed, amazed she could joke. She picked up the phone.
    "Juliet..?" her voice broke.
