Everything Changes After Spending 7 Months Apart – (Chapter: If only time flew like a dove. Well God make it fly, faster than I'm falling in love.)
My day started out pretty rotten. The first thing I heard upon waking up, quite literally the cause of my waking up, was loud pounding on the basement door. I thought it was just my drowsiness amplifying the sound at first, but once I came to, I finally realized it was really just that loud.
Who would be coming to the basement door? As a matter of fact, who would be pounding that loud? Why didn’t they stop after the first sixty times that no one answered? My first thoughts are that whatever person is making that noise could be dangerous. Nothing else added up, it had to be that they were an angry person. Maybe it was a man, an angry man, standing tall at the door with his balled up fists beating at the door in a fit of rage. Maybe he was a war veteran and was beginning to have flashbacks and thought that we were Japanese spies.
Whoever it was, if they posed threat, I wouldn’t think twice about whipping the AR-15 out of my parents’ closet and firing it at will.
I finally pulled myself from under the sheets and threw on my pajama bottoms and the first shirt I found. As I walked out into the hallway, I was greeted by my parents. The obnoxious pounding woke them up too, and I could tell they weren’t happy about it. I spared a glance out the window, knowing that I was the closest one to a gun. Then when I saw the vehicle – it finally registered. No one is going to try to do any form of home invasion in the middle of broad daylight.
The cop car was sitting in the driveway for us to view in all its glory. I thought I got rid of those assholes two weeks ago. Apparently not, however, because here they were for the fourth time in total, looking for some woman none of us have ever even heard of. This time they just about pushed my buttons.
“Go get me your ID.” My mother says as she collects her and my father’s cards.
I give my mother a blank stare. None of us look anything like the woman they are looking for. No one in my home has committed a crime. The cops weren’t even on our property for anything that had to do with us. They woke us up and still think they have a right to see ID. They have no legal right.
