    Chapter Six – Snapped

    ~

"Earlier today the small town of Briar Ville was disrupted by a horrible tragedy. An explosion believed to be caused by an unknown amount of dynamite has devastated members of the community. As of now police have no leads, suspects, or motives-"

Christine walks over to the small television resting on top of her kitchen countertop. She pulls the screen towards her and in her state of shock she somehow manages to hit the power button, successfully shutting the reporter up.

Could it be? Could the explosion somehow be linked to Aiden, to her daughter?

    ~

Rain pours down on the car. Strikes of lightning shoot out and disappear just as fast. If it weren’t for the sounds of the storm the car would be completely silent.

Christine isn’t sure what to think. Could her daughter and her friends somehow be involved with the accident? The older woman desperately wants to believe otherwise, still, the coincidence is too much.

Briar Ville had always been such a small town. What were the chances that two tragedies would strike in one day and not be linked? Slim, the chances of that were very, very slim.

The older woman turns and watches her daughter nervously bite her nails. Looking in the rear view mirror she catches a glimpse of Spencer’s face. Aiden’s issues were somehow related to the explosion. That she knew for sure.

"Goodnight." Christine says as she brings the car to a stop. She takes a few moments making sure the girl is safely in her home before pulling away from the curb.

And now that she knows the truth Christine realizes that she needs to make a hard decision. "We’re moving." As much as she’d rather not do it, it’s for the best, it has to be done.

    ~

"I don’t get why Glen’s still mad at me… He’s knows I’m moving soon, right?"

"I told him you were, but he’s been acting so weird lately. He won’t even look at me." Spencer says.

    "Duck, they’re pulling up."

The girls crouch behind a couple of hedges.

"You think Aiden is okay?" Spencer questions from behind while focusing her eyes on Aiden’s mothers car as it pulls into the driveway.
