Chapter 12: The Other Side of Town

As Ashley lay in the hospital bed with Brooke, her stomach turned in circles remembering what happened. Ashley stood up and got dressed, then was as quiet as possible she slipped out of the hospital room. The nurses were all watching early morning television and did not notice that one of their patients had left the hospital.

She went down to her doctor’s office and found out that she had not come in yet. She was home with a friend, Abby’s secretary had told Ashley. Distraught, Ashley asked the lady how she could find Doctor Lockhart. The woman told her that she was going to have to wait for her to come in. Ashley pleaded, “Please she is the only one that I can talk to, and she must know where my friend is”.

The woman got up and went to put papers on Abby’s desk. Having left Ashley alone, she went to the secretary’s desk and found Abby’s address. She wrote it down and moved the files back on top of the book and hurried out the door.

The cab pulled up to the sidewalk and Ashley jumped in. She told the driver Abby’s address. He pulled up to an apartment building and Ashley paid him and got out.

Ashley noticed that Abby’s door was opened and she could hear Spencer talking in another room. She looked over and saw Abby standing over the sink.

“What is Spencer doing here in your apartment Dr Lockhart?” Ashley asked.

Abby was startled with Ashley being there and looked up at her with tears in her eyes. “I brought her here after you broke her heart Ashley. She was so upset and I couldn’t watch her weep so much for someone who didn’t appreciate her whole heart”, Abby replied.

Ashley walked over toward Abby and said, “Let me guess, you appreciate her more, I can see that you want her for yourself. Or have you already got her completely now?” Ashley questioned. Doctor you are not suppose to get involved with a patient’s family. You are to be here for medical support and advice, not personal. I didn’t mean for Spencer to see Brooke and I like that. I tried to get Brooke to leave but she has always been obsessed with me” Ashley told Abby.

With not another word said, Ashley walked to the room where Spencer was. She did not make a sound because Spencer seemed to be pouring her heart out.
