SPENCER’S P.O.V.

The next day I call Aiden. He answers the phone excitedly.

Aiden: “How’d it go?” he asks excitedly.

Spencer: “She was a complete ditz.”

Aiden: “Really?!”

Spencer: “Yea, a superficial cheerleader. She was so annoying. Saying ‘like’ and ‘totally’ every five seconds.” he laughs. “The entire time I kept thinking ‘would you like, shut the hell up!’.”

Aiden: “Spence, it couldn’t have been that bad.” he says, trying to hold back his laughter.

Spencer: “It was one of the most un-exhilarating moments of my life. I’d date you again before going out with her.”

Aiden: “Spence.” he whines.

Spencer: “Sorry.” I mumble. “I did happen to make Ashley jealous, although she won’t admit it. I know there’s still something there. She’s just afraid to let it out.” I say sadly.

Aiden: “I’m not too clued in on this thing between you and Ashley, and don’t hate me for what I’m about to say but, did you ever think that…maybe Ashley really is happy with Emily?”

Spencer: “But she want’s me, I know she does.”

Aiden: “Maybe it’s not what you think.”

Spencer: “What does that mean?”

Aiden: “Old habits die hard Spence. Like with us, there will always be that special place in my heart for you, but you will always see me as just a friend. Maybe that’s what’s going on with you and Ashley.”

Spencer: “NO! that’s not what I mean. Ashley and I…we’re not like that. She wants me as more than a friend. I just…I don’t even understand why she’s trying to push me into dating. I didn’t even want to go on that stupid date.”

Aiden: “So why did you?”

Spencer: “I…I went for Ashley.”

Aiden: “Spencer…you can’t do that. If you’re gonna date, then it has to be for you.”

Spencer: “She’s got all these dates lined up for me. I have to-” he cuts me off.

Aiden: “You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. If you did, then you’d be dating me.” he chuckled.

Spencer: “You know…it’s really sad when no one laughs along when you try to make a joke. So please, stop attempting to be funny.” I snap.

Aiden: “Ouch! Someone woke up with a stick in her ass.”

Spencer: “Whatever.”

Aiden: “Spence, what’s wrong?”

Spencer: “I don’t want to be over her. I mean I do, but I don’t. You know what I mean?”

Aiden: “You want her to want you.”

Spencer: “Cheap trick.” he chuckles. “But yea. That’s exactly it.”

Aiden: “I understand.” the line is silent and I know why. “If she wants you the way you say she does, then maybe she’s pushing you into dating for her own sake. You know, so it’ll be less tempting to be with you.”

Spencer: “You know…that’s just about the smartest thing I’ve ever heard you say.” he chuckles.

Aiden: “Thanks, but don’t expect another genius thought for a while. That one made my head hurt.” we laugh.

Spencer: “Thanks Aid. I love you. You know…like a brother. Only, we’ve slept together so…never mind.”

Aiden: “And you just made a sweet comment very, very weird.” he chuckles. “But thanks, I understand what you meant.” and we‘re quiet again “Have you told her?”

Spencer: “I…I think she gets the idea. We kind of…went through something when you were gone.”

Aiden: “You slept with her?!!!”

Spencer: “No! Well not since she’s been with Emily.” I sigh.

Aiden: “I knew it! I knew you two-” I cut him off.

Spencer: “Shut up.” I say jokingly and laugh, he chuckles along. “…we had a little talk once.”

Aiden: “And I’m guessing it didn’t go as planned since she’s still with Emily.” I didn’t answer. In fact, I was sick of this whole subject. So I changed it.

Spencer: “So what about you, have you been girlfriend shopping?” He was quiet. I could sense he got the message.

Aiden: “Actually, I have.”

Spencer: “And who is this girl you have in mind?” I ask tauntingly.

Aiden: “Her name is Julia.”

Spencer: “Wait a minute wait a minute. Julia…as in Julia from middle school Julia?”

Aiden: “Yep, that’s the one. According to her, she had a crush on me then too. We’ll be going on our second date tomorrow.”

Spencer: “Well I’m happy for you. I’m glad you’ve found someone your interested in.”

Aiden: “Thanks Spence.” I could hear the smile in his voice.
