Not The Type 2: Established – (Chapter: Chapter 3)

“It’s really annoying when you have to tell people something more than once.” I complain in the phone to my mom.

“What happen…oh that doesn’t sound good.” My mom says when we both hear the sound of a crash coming from somewhere in my house.

“Ugh…I have to go deal with them.” I sigh into the phone. “I’ll call you back in about an hour.”

“Okay sweetheart. Love you.” I hang up the phone and leave my kitchen to see what’s going on. “What’s going on?” Two people pause in place. I take in the look of the room. Couch pillows laying on the floor, and the lamp I just bought is broken in pieces on the floor. “What did I tell you guys about running in the house?” I use my mom voice.

“Spencer…” Ashley walks in the room with a broom in a dust pan.

“No. Ash, they’re too old for this.” I turn my attention onto Ashley. “You’re too old for this.”

“Chill, Spence.” Jordan pipes up. Oh. You didn’t know that my living room was trashed by all adults.

“Shut up, Jordan.” Brooke flops down onto the couch. “Comments like that will get you nowhere.” Jordan glares at Brooke.

“Brooke ran into the table and knocked your lamp over.” Ashley laughs while Brooke jumps up from the couch to attack Jordan.

“You guys are so childish. Clean this stuff up.”

“Oh someone is on the rag.” Jordan and Brooke burst out laughing.

“Shut up. That was last week.” I hear Ashley say as I walk away. “I plan on getting some tonight.” I just roll my eyes in leave the idiots alone.

“…And how long have you been having these pains in your chest?”

    “I think…um about a week.”

“On scale one to ten…how would you rate the pain in your chest?”

“Um…seven.” I nod and write down my patient response on his chart.

    “Okay, Mr. Clarkson I need…”

“Nurse Carlin-Davies…” Another nurse interrupters me. I excuse myself.

    “What’s up Annie?”

“Ashley’s at the Nurses station.” I look away from Mr. Clarkson to Annie when she mentions my wife.

“What?” I frown. “Why? I didn’t get paged.”

“Yeah, she didn’t want to alarm you.” Annie says.

“Can you take over for me here?” I start to get concerned. Ashley never comes to the hospital announced… unless…not even going to think about it. I give Annie the run down on Mr. Clarkson and leave her to it. I hurry down the hall to the elevator. Once I get on I go down to the third floor, to the Nurse station Annie said Ashley was waiting at.
